While the ant constantly works to prepare for the cold winter days, the cricket, who doesn't like to work, is always having fun, playing the violin, and dancing. When he gets hungry, he knocks on doors and asks for food.
One day, feeling hungry, the Cricket knocks on the Old Aunt's door. The Old Aunt gives the Cricket some food, but tells him that if he works for her and helps with the farm chores, he will always have food. The Cricket says he doesn't like working at all and leaves the Old Aunt's house.
When the Cricket encounters the Ant on the road, he makes fun of the Ant's hard work. The ant gets very angry at the cricket's attitude and tells it not to come to its door on cold winter days.
